I wrote that title and realized it looked like I had a conversation with Stephen King. Damn, I wish. I would give my left arm to do that. On Writing changed the way I thought about writing. Stephen King isn’t my favorite author, and I hate some of his stuff, but if there is one thing I can say about him, he is unique. He takes risks, he is unafraid to be criticized, and he writes. And writes. And writes. And…well, you get the idea.
What it really is is the video below. Whether or not you like his work, there is a ton you can learn about writing. Around the fifteen minute mark he talks about how he came up with the Green Mile and Cujo. Holy crap. If you don’t want to watch the whole thing, at least watch that.
I have a post up on the old Story Arcs announcing this, but I had a lot more to say and thought it really needed to be here.
About a year or so ago I created my first blog (actually my second or third, but the first I really kept up with) for the purpose of looking at several topics. First and foremost, writing. I am a writer and aspiring author. I have one book completed and the second well on its way. I wrote about several things in the publishing industry (as I learned them) as well as the various things I love about Fantasy and Science Fiction. I also write about games, movies, shows, anything that peaks my interest.
This new site will follow that same format for the most part. The blog is still dedicated to all those nerd habits, but I also intend it to be a personal website once I know more about which path to publishing I take.
As I said in that post on the old Story Arcs site, a lot has happened. What?
- Learning more and more about publishing, both self and traditional, to the point that my old Self vs Traditional publishing page is incredibly incomplete.
- Iron Man 3 and Star Trek: Into Darkness (Which will get their own posts, believe me)
- BioShock 3 (Same here)
- Oodles and oodles of other games and movies I’ve just now caught up on, gotten interested in, rediscovered, or been assaulted by.
Anyway, I am looking forward to getting back in the swing of things. Also, if anyone has any comments on the new design, please let me know. I have had to educate myself on the various aspects of having a hosted website, wordpress, themes, etc. It came out better than I expected, but then I’m biased.
