Order Bound Novel
Okay, I came back to the website and the damn thing was down. Then I wrote the post I came back to write, only to fail to save it because…I guess I don’t remember how to write on WordPress anymore? Or something changed? Sigh. Anyway, I have news. It’s not the new novel. Well, it’s not the NEXT novel. Not, uh, exactly. It’s been an interesting couple of years since I wrote the Order Bound novella and FayTown Calling. I have been working on the next Virgil book. It started out being Pilfered Souls but I am going with another idea I had in the middle of that called Blood Pact. I’ll circle back on that in a minute. I wish I did have this next book. Well, apparently the website was down. I, uh, don’t come here a lot, honestly, so I hadn’t realized until a little while ago when I wanted to announce something. Looking at the site stats I am assuming it has been down for…quite a while. Quite a LONG while. So, we’re just going to ignore how little attention I pay to my own website, chock that up to a learning opportunity, and move one. Next post will be the ACTUAL announcement I was wanting to make.
Novels VS. Novellas
Currently, I am working on two projects. It’s made me think a bit harder about how I want to keep doing things, so I want to solicit feedback to get a feel. Order Bound happened as an accident. The scenes that became that story started out as nothing more than the first chapter of Faytown Calling. I knew I wanted Gus in that book, so I started it with Virgil being involved in his knighting. The more detail I added, the longer the chapter became and eventually I felt I could do more with his intro in a standalone. Besides, Faytown was becoming so freaking long that I knew there needed to be cuts. It was, to me at least, a happy accident. I loved writing that story and am super proud of how it came out. But right now, it’s also the lowest selling in the Virgil series. It’s…
Virgil McDane Series Update
I wanted to provide everyone a quick update on what I plan to do with this series. Especially given how long it took to publish FayTown Calling, I think it’s important. A few caveats. First, I learned a lot writing FayTown. More than I needed to, really but the point is that those lessons will help a great deal in moving forward. I am less patient with the type of delaying tactics I have used in the past and more mindful of what I need to do to be successful. As much as I hate to admit it, FayTown Calling was written in several furious sprints with months or even years apart, something I am working to prevent moving forward. Second, the final push that got that out came from some unexpected changes in my professional life. It gave me some time to finish up the book. With everything going…
FayTown Calling is out (and so is a novella called Order Bound)
After a very, very, (ahem) VERY long time, FayTown Calling is out. I’ll make this as short as I apparently am capable. Do I have (good) reasons that it took this long? Sure, I have a few. I have some bad ones too. Do you want to hear any of them? Probably not. I could ramble forever about everything I learned, how I’ve changed over the years, and a ton of other stuff like that. To do so is a self-indulgent desire that comes from an instinct to explain why it’s been this long. At the end of the day, it just has and finally, FINALLY it is out.
