Irrational Games, the makers of BioShock is, for all and intents and purposes, done with. Ken Levine announced a few days back that he will be laying off all but fifteen of his employees. This is a huge blow to the gaming community. I remember, vaguley, hearing about Black Isle, the creators of Baldur’s Gate, closing down when I was a kid. I remember feeling somewhat upset, because I had wanted more games like that. But it was way in the back of my mind, I had come along to these late so they were already old to me. I assumed there wouldn’t be more. This is different. I may not have been there for System Shock, but I followed BioShock from announcement to release. I went by Wal-Mart on my way home from work (at five in the morning) to buy it then spent four or five hours diving…
For Christmas I bought myself an Asus laptop. It was cheap, dependable, exactly what I needed for writing. It was about fourteen inches, so it was big enough to get a good bit on the screen, was quick with 4 GB of ram, and had tons of space. I just traded it in though, so that’s not what I’m writing about. It wasn’t that it was a bad laptop, it just wasn’t what I had in mind. For years, I’ve either written on our desktop PC or my netbook. The netbook has finally worn itself out and I really wanted something that was just as portable but quicker. The Asus I bought was right at $300 and I really thought it would meet that. The moment I opened it up though, I knew it was a problem. First, the keyboard sounded hollow. I know, stupid complaint, but that speaks a…
Cracked has a pretty great post (because there are two people in the world, those that like Star Wars and those that like Star Trek, and I’m the former) about why Star Wars is betterĀ that Star Trek. What I didn’t realize until I read it, and I have to kinda apologize for this, is that J.J. Abrams did essentially make the Star Trek movies into Star Wars. That’ probably why I was alright with them and so confused by the plethora of hatred that was directed toward them. Before I dive into this, they definitely have their problems. The first one was ridiculously forgettable (I know Vulcan gets blown the fuck up and there’s the whole time thing, but that’s all I got) and Khan’s “surprise” visit annoyed me as much as everyone else, but they were fun. I like the whole time displacement that has given them a reason…
Just to let everyone know, Sorcerer Rising is now available on Kobo and Nook. If you haven’t checked it out and maybe were waiting for it to come out on your preferred device, head on over. If you’re waiting for it to come out on Apple…the best thing I can tell you is to get one of the above retailer’s apps. Sorry.
