Day 10 of 10 Writing FayTown Calling

My last day. Tomorrow I return to work, return to an avalanche of emails and things to take care of. This has been a good lesson, helping me to get back in the habit of writing, and more importantly, moving me leaps and bounds toward having FayTown Calling completed. I hate to end it like this, but I didn’t write much today. Getting two hours of sleep will do that. I wrote a scene and cleaned up a few other things, but that was pretty much it. That’s seven-thousand words for the weekend and I’m happy with everything I have. Going forward, I plan on keeping this up. I hope it’s enjoyable for others but really that’s to keep me accountable. I’m not committing to anything, because I can see this steadily falling to the wayside, but it’s something I plan on keeping up. I will have an update on…

Day 9 of 10 Writing FayTown Calling

It’s seven in the morning and I’m pretty sure I’m done writing for now. I got a few hours of sleep, fully intending to actually go to bed, then woke up and stayed that way. This turned out to be a mixed blessing as I then wrote 4,200 words that I am very, very happy with. The afternoon netted be over 2,000 giving me a total of around 6,500 words for day nine. That bleeds into Sunday (day 10) so I don’t really know how to count it, but whatever, I’m calling that day nine. Currently, the story is at 112, 391 words. If you’re scratching your head at that total, that’s because of a lot of cannibalization of previous words. Those don’t get counted in my word count for the day, but obviously do for the total. Because so much is getting recycled, and so much getting cut because…

Day 8 of 10 Writing FayTown Calling

Yesterday was a two part day. The first part was actual writing. I worked on two sections and added about 1,500 words. I still have several of these sections as Needs Work but that’s because I haven’t had a chance to go back over them and make sure I’m happy with them. The second part was last night, and involved no writing. Not a best practice by any means, but I worked out several issues that had been staring me in the face, including adding a major moment to a story arc that will be huge, a big enough deal that I’m going to need to go back and foreshadow it.  It also made me consider how many words I’m willing to go over 125,000. On the one hand, it felt like I didn’t get anything done because I, literally, added know words. On the other, I had no idea…

Day 7 of 10 Writing FayTown Calling

Woah, sorry I’m late with this. I was up til seven and then slept late. Very late. Later than I have in a long time. Let’s all just agree not to ask… Anyway, it went well last night. I finished two sections, including one that I created on the fly. A lot of people compare outlining to pantsing, well that’s how I write when it comes down to it. I outline, I know what is happening, and then something comes along and just shoves its nose in everything. It’s a good scene though, and it gave me ideas for more. So, that’s my update for today. I lost some time and am probably going to lose some time tonight, so I’m going to write right now as much as possible.

Day 6 of 10 Writing FayTown Calling

Well… I got the new Dresden Files book, Skin Game… So…didn’t really get much writing done. I took a cursory glance at the section I’d completed in day 5, it held up better than I expected. Other than that, I just read. It’s been good, so good that I ignored my writing, didn’t even write my progress report. Right now it’s 10:30 in the morning on Thursday. I’ll be reading a bit more, there’s no denying it, but I will be doubling up on writing this afternoon and tonight, catching up on what I was supposed to do yesterday and moving things along.
